This past weekend the Sr girls basketball headed to Redwater for a tournament. Their first game was against Lamont High School which was a great warm up game for them after coming back from a long winter break. The coaches were able to get all nine girls in for a significant amount of playing time. They easily won with a score of 63-12.
In the semi finals they were scheduled to play Thorsby High School. Starting the game with a press JMHS got off to a quick 10-0 start before Thorsby even knew the game had started. Going into the fouth quarter JMHS had a lead of 39-16 but Thorsby fought back to only being down by 6 points until JMHS decided it was enough was enough and took control of the game, slowing down the tempo to use the clock and making smarter decisions which eventually lead to a 56-35 win to send them in finals.
The final game was a battle of the Wildcats as JMHS played against Marwayne Jubile High School a strong 1A team with Honourable mentions at the current provincial ranking. Once again by starting the game out with a defensive press JMHS was able to get out to a lead. This being the third finals appearance in a row for the Sr. girls and not being able to seal the previous tournament with a gold finish they wanted it more than ever. The girls left everything on the floor as they fought for gold and this time it would not get away from them as they went onto win 41-28. Over the tournament the coaches and officials put their votes in for a tournament MVP and JMHS own Manie James came home with the honour.
Their next game will be on Wednesday Jan 14th against RF Staples in Westlock.
